Title : Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.92%

Japanese stocks declined after Thursday's close, as losses in the gas and water, mining, finance, and investment sectors led stocks lower.


At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 was down 0.92%.


The session's top performers in the Nikkei 225 were Shinsei Bank, Ltd. (TYO:8303), which rose 8.15% or 175.00 points to trade at 2,321.00 at the close. Meanwhile, J.Front Retailing Co (TYO:3086) rose 3.08% or 47.00 points to 1,249.00 in late trading, while Nisshin Seifun Group Inc (TYO:2002) rose 3.08% or 47.00 points to 1,575.00.


The worst performers of the session were Fujikura Ltd. (TYO:5803) (TYO:5803), which fell 5.19% or 48.00 points to trade at 876.00 at the close. TOTO Ltd. (TYO:5332) was down 2.93% or 140.00 points to 4,635.00, while Unitika Ltd. (TYO:3103) fell. (TYO:3103) was down 2.90% or 8.00 points to 268.00.


Falling stocks outnumbered advancers on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2279 to 1188, and 297 ended unchanged.


J.Front Retailing Co (TYO:3086) shares reached a 52-week high, rising 3.91%, or 47.00, to 1249.00.


Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.57%, to 22.79.

Crude oil for December delivery rose 1.96%, or 1.66, to $86.18 a barrel. In commodities, Brent crude oil for December delivery rose 1.51%, or 1.40, to settle at $93.81 a barrel, while the December gold futures contract rose 0.17%, or 2.85, to trade at $1,637.05 a troy ounce.


GBPJPY was up 0.01% to 149.90, while EURJPY was up 0.15% to 146.68.

The dollar index futures fell 0.13% to 112.74.
