Title : Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.34%

Australian stocks rose after Monday's close, as gains in the energy, resources, metals and mining sectors led shares higher.


At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 was up 0.34%.


The session's top performers on the S&P/ASX 200 were Whitehaven Coal Ltd, which rose 6.52%, or 0.52 points, to trade at 8.49 at the close. Meanwhile, Beach Energy Ltd added 5.18% or 0.09 points to end at 1.73 and Woodside Energy Ltd rose 4.25% or 1.43 points to 35.08 in late trading.


The worst performers of the session were Pointsbet Holdings Ltd, which fell 6.44% or 0.15 points to trade at 2.18 at the close. Falling stocks outnumbered advancing stocks on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 812 to 563, with 409 ending unchanged.


Shares of Whitehaven Coal Ltd rose to an all-time high, up 6.52%, or 0.52 points, to 8.49.


The S& P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S& P/ASX 200 options, fell 1.79% to 15.45.


Gold futures for December delivery were down 0.11%, or 1.85, to $1,720.75 a troy ounce. In commodities, crude oil for October delivery was up 2.33%, or 2.02, to settle at $88.89 a barrel, while the Brent crude oil contract for November was up 2.47%, or 2.30, to trade at $95.32 a barrel.


AUD/USD was unchanged, up 0.45% to 0.68, while AUD/JPY was down 0.22% to 95.24.

The dollar index futures rose 0.42% to 109.96.
